for those w/ lowrider bicycles-- are they comfortable? are they actually built to be cruisin' around the neighborhood- or, are they just to look at? i'm not looking to enter one in the tour de france (i have a mountain bike for my actual training needs). and, finally, i'm a 5'5", 260 lbs. powerlifter (y'know the guys that bench-press Volkswagons) am i too heavy for these type bikes?

Some are and some are not, depending on the type of seat. The typical and most commonly used "banana" seat usually is not, unless you and additional padding to it. The other style of seat, the "saddle" is pretty good on comfort and support for cruisin around the neighborhood.
