okay, i recently got sent the named kit('59 impala, Revell, Skill level 3). I want to know that if i dont have all the fancy tools for painting etc, can i use spray paint?? and if i can then how efficient it will be and will the paint run, etc, etc.
Here's a pic of it (below) and a link to the site where i got the pic from (below the pic)
And here's the link.... '59 Chevy Impala Hardtop
i just wanted to know because if you see where the two tone paint changes, you have to paint the ble on and the white is the plastic. So if anyone can help me out on this one then i will greatly appreciate it (btw, i may turn it into a replica of 'big red', the 59 impala featured in the cars section...if i can be arsed to go and get the paint...which i probably cant!! ) thanks for all the help in advance!

thats a great kit. I can give you some pointers, first you have to wash the model real good with dishwashing soap to take out any oil before painting, (very important) then primer the whole car its best to use automotive primer for this. when your ready to paint.you could paint the whole thing white then mask off the part you dont want white and then paint the other color. for using cans you get better results and no runs if you first warm up the can in hot water for 10 minutes before spraying (it flows better not too thick) then just use nice smooth strokes, a light coat first, let dry for 5 minutes then another until you get the color you want. the secret is to not spray it on too thick or you get runs. after your satisfied with the color, let dry real good then do your foiling, then your clear. the clear seals in the foil,. hope that helps.

maddhopper, it seems you have way more experience than me and/or more tools than me...i just want to know if i can spray paint it basically, and i have no Clear!! if you know anywhere in the UNITED KINGDOM (UK) where i can get all the things you've outlined, i will be very grateful (bearing in mind i dont want to be very economical with my money) and maybe you could explain what they're all for etc (as you probably have realised by now, i'm a)poor and b) dont have much serious equipment for model cars; so this is a bit of a down side) ![]()
oh and just to let you know i've recently completed a metal body '63 impala (purple and white) will post pics when my digital camera works

v cool, thanks for the help. i asked my dad about the stuff and he explained it to me etc as well, so i got help from two people. I've got another question (seeing as i want to make this 59 very nice and well done, maybe a bit cruiser) and it concerns the interiors. Do i spray paint them and all and for fine work what do i use?? btw, watch this forum as i may be asking lots of questions so i can make it as good as i possibly can. thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it soo much and whoeva said they've done this kit before, can you please post some pics?? THANK YOU!!! you guys are alrite...no mater what anyone says about americans...i'll tell em all to shut their damn mouths.

for small things like trim it looks really good. dont try to chrome a whole suspension with it though or it will look like crap
