It’s a 79 Monte Carlo with custom hand made (one of a kind professionally done) gull wing doors. Yes, they work really great. In fact, they are as smooth as ever and close tight. The door gaps and body panel seams are clean and amazing. Yes, it cost a lot to build and it took 6 years to create. ((all the drawings, designs, sketches, engineering drawings are included. )) I was going to build this gull wing door kit and adapt for other models of cars and sell them as bolt on kits for a small business opportunity. Everyone wants to know if I could do it for their car. I don't have the time. This is a rare Monte Carlo too, because of how clean it is. It was originally from South Carolina I believe. I never drove the car in the winter, actually it was only driven an average of 50-150 miles a year for the past 18 years. It still has the original tires I purchased 18 years ago on it...... And in those years I had it painted two times. The last paint job went down to bare metal. Many coats of orange/bronze base coat with gold pearl and clear were applied then sanded and reapplied to achieve a smooth glass like surface. This car would make a good promotional or sales ad for other accessories. It's not ready for SEMA but does have potential with some TLC and much better rims. Note the etched glass art work in side windows. Gull Wing Doors The doors were hand made with fiberglass and steel tubing for the window frames. Believe it or not the windows go up and down unlike any production car with doors like this. The lift springs help to lift the door evenly and keep them open. The roll cage was added to strengthen the frame, add roll over protection, and side impact protection too. You could stand on the roof center section and jump up and down and it will not ever move. Tilt Front End It's hydraulic and opens with the flip of a switch. Working on the engine is real easy by just sitting on the tire- the spark plugs are right there. It’s cool. It's all the original front end sheet metal and the hood still opens the normal way too. Wiring All original wiring which has not been touched. Engine Chevy 350 bored 30 over with a 288 488 cam and ported, polished and gasket matched heads, beamed the connecting rods, and a double rolled timing chain. Trans and drive axle have all been rebuilt. Trans has a 3000 stall speed converter, a shift kit and shifts hard. The rear axle is 3:42 posi. Quarter mile times are low 13sec. just over 101 MPH. It still has the stock style fuel pump. Imagine what it will do with a high psi pump! The Show
Yes, roof panels are fiberglass too. The paint/body when looking down the side of the car is very flat from all the stick sanding that was done on the primer to make it flat.
Yes the currently the white panels are ¼” foam core , and I sketched on the design for how I would do the upholstery.
NO I did not paint over any rust under the frame its that clean. You can see stamping marks.
The front clip is all original metal with metal hood and fenders, and the hood still opens the normal way too. Trunk lid is aluminum. Under the hood is painted black, bolts are all clean, under coating was pulled off and the frame was primed and painted black, it’s just dirty dusty now.
The side windows are Lexan plastic and need a little help to make sure the catch at the top when you roll them up. (little floppy)
The tilt front end works with hydraulic convertible top cylinders with the flip of a switch.
Not sure if the roof would leak in a heavy rain there are some rain gutters and the drain hose needs hooked up. It never sees the rain.. Yes it’s a full roll cage in the car, 6 point welded directly to the frame
No I did not install the door locks yet, They are Honda side door handles. I was going to add key less locks instead.
