i got a 74 caprice convertible and i dont know which interior to go with. Im tossing up between the full button tuck or vinyl with gucci inserts... The thing is my seats are bench seats so if i was to button tuck i would have to get custom made swivel seats to make it look better and run a console all the way down the middle to the back.. So my question is what do you think will look better in a convertible - button tuck, or vinyl/leather with the designer inserts?

The button tuck is the gangster way to go but it could cost alot. The designer fabric thing is cool but I feel that *** is trendy. i don't think that style will stand the test of time. If i owned that car, I'd put some seats and console from an 60's era impala SS and wrap it in O.G. two tone tuck and roll and use acrylic white fur for the carpet, then top it off with a deep dish 10" steering wheel. That's what I'm talkin bout---gangster to the max holmes--

ive owned a couple of rag caprices in my days. Do not button tuck that classic car. I once did my interior tweed, and i regret it. Keep it stock or do it vinyl, stock patterns with maybe some suede inserts. it will keep your cost down and still give you a custom look. it will be easier to sell if you ever get in a jam or want something new. designer inserts are in my view pretty "ricer". getting a bit tired too. also a lot of knock off material going around, might not know what you are buying. nice clean stock looking interior (maybe leather if you have the money) with a canvas top and youll be riding more comfortably and get more looks from people who know there cars.

i would do the leather with the factory look, but the tuck and roll looks nice too if you got the flakes and all that to go with it

"Newbie", coming from a 16 year old kid with no license, builds models/ hangs out in the model section and tries to give advice from no experience. Forums are here to HELP people based on a person's experience and knowledge. If one doesn't have any experience dealing with a subject, they shouldnt post as if they know what they are talking about. I haven't been a "newbie" for a long time. Wish i was, maybe then i wouldnt be as picky as i am with cars. If you button tuck that ride here is what is going to happen: 1) going to waste your money 2) waste your time (which i hate to do more then anything) 3) not improve the value of a car that is considered a classic 4) not going to be comfortable in 5) not get respect from a good portion of your peers. People say they dont care, they do what they like. I do what i like, but nothing is better then having the respect of people doing what you do.
i think people need to start putting up explanations behind their comments. ive seen far few lowriders whove used "designer" material look good. Have had stock and custom interior in my cars, including one of my old caprice rags. not just about the material. go to a respected upholsterer. Let him order your material from places he know are legit. i would not buy any material online. Better off spending the money into getting a nicer top made of canvas, which runs about 30-36 dollars a yard. not cheap but looks nice, and they have new bright "Hot Rod" colors that might match whatever you need.
ps a lot of the style goes on what you see in your area. I grew up in southern cali and have seen some weird things in the states i moved to for work. Why i said Respect is a big thing for me, cause if you build something with swivels, button tuck in california for a customer or for yourself, going to get a little embarrassed.

Do i need to sit here all day and post until and post to 300 so i can be a seasoned veterano like you. Youre wet around the ears kid when it comes to building a car. He is asking MEN who BUILD cars, not kids who build models for advice. doesnt matter if im new here or not, what im saying is true. if he follows your "forum veterano" advice, going to be an unhappy MAN.

if the guy likes the button tuck look then it will not be a waste of time or money to him and who cares what it does to the value of the car. lots of stuff we do dont add value to a car. and i dont know what part of california button tuck would get laughed at but "hot rod" colered ricer vynil will get you "respect". probably the *** part

i did say, depends on where you are at and is always what you want to accomplish. if i can help it, ill get the most for the money i can. so if my property gains value because i used one material/style over another and i also accomplish whatever goal i had for the car, then ill do that.
you went newbie when there was no need. regardless if i had one post or not. this why the internet at times is a bad place to get advice. i can post links to things, i can post pictures, i can do everything to create an image like i "know" something. the bottom line is the man asked for advice, and i gave a perspective. up to him to do what he likes in the end. now dropping f bombs, throwing out a newbie (when it has no importance to the topic) is just plain stupid. fool, also dont know where you are going with vynal hot rod colors. i said CANVAS (stayfast being the best and can run at close to 1200 for just the top at some shops), canvas is not vynal, it is CANVAS. i dont know if you know the differences between the top materials or not, but canvas is its own material. like i said, i can post pictures of different cars with the various materials, but its as easy as going to an upholsterer or material shop. Southern California doesn't do button tuck anymore. If you do have it, its probably because the car has been that way since the 80s to late 90s and hasnt had a make over. hard to get people to listen on the internet, even if the person talking has knocked out cars as a profession and talk from experience. been there done that, just dont want someone else to make a mistake if i can, because later on saying "i should have done that instead" or " i should have listened" sux.
