I am trying to get involve into the lowrider movement. I have recently bought a 63 impala, 4 door, hard top, with out the middle bar between the front and back door... I have no idea what type of impala it is nor do I know what type of engine it has.. I have looked in several catalogs and have not found one that looks like mine.

The Impala You Are Describing Is Exactly what you said- Impala 4dr hardtop. Hardtop is a term to say there is no b-pillar on the vehicle. This Model is the top of the line four door in 1963 but was not available in ss trim. The engine can be 4 different choices. A straight 6 cyl would be a 230 cu in. A V8 with rectangular valve covers would be either a 283(most common) or a 327. If you have a small 2 barrel carb and single exhaust, it is most likely a 283. Most 327's came with a 4barrel carb and dual exhaust. Your next choice is a 409 and that is very doubtful. The valve covers would be a "w" shape. 327 and 409's had a badge on the fenders while the six cyl. and the 283 only had a decoritive crest

The pictured vehicle is termed as a four door sedan, not a hardtop. A sedan will all ways have a permanant frame or structure around the window while a hardtop will have no permanant structure around the windows
